Tigers Drop Non-Conference Game to Engineers

Box Score and Play-by-Play

Terre Haute, Ind. -- The Tiger nine stranded 12 runners and couldn't recover from a 6-2 deficit in losing at Roes-Hulman 7-5 in the non-conference game. The loss drops the Tigers to 11-10 on the season and snaps their five-game win streak. The Engineers improved to 18-6.

The Tigers fell behind 1-0 after one as Rob Nichols singled home Jimmy Costa. Rose-Hulman added another tally in the fifth as Marc McCullough tripled with one out and was singled home by Costa.

In the sixth, Tom Heldt and Rob Kiburz had bases-loaded singles for the Tigers to tie the score at 2-2. The Engineers came right back with four runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning to take the 6-2 advantage.

The Tigers added a single run in the seventh and two more in the eighth, but simply couldn't get timely hitting. Rose-Hulman southpaw Andy Cain, now 5-0, beat the Old Gold for the second time on the season as he struck out nine in six and one-third innings. Derek Coe took the loss and fell to 0-2.

The first-place Tigers return to ICAC action on Saturday with a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Manchester.
